Introduction
Founded in 1949, China Dancers Association (CDA) is a non-governmental organization of professional dancers from all ethnic groups of China as well as a group member of CFLAC. CDA practices group membership and individual membership simultaneously, and currently consists of 36 group members of dancers associations of 22 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities and 5 industries. With over 8000 individual members in total, CDA has National Congress as its supreme organ of power.
Within the framework of CDA, there are several professional committees of performance, choreography, theory, education, street dance and public dance. CDA takes the initiative in making functions of consolidation, guidance, communication, coordination, service and management, self-discipline and rights protection as well as organizing training, inspiration seeking deep into life, awards and festivals, showcase of creation, theoretic exchange, publication, art voluntary service, lawful rights protection and exchange with foreign counterparts. In order to prosper Chinese dance cause, CDA is committed to promoting dance choreography, organizing theoretic symposium and critics, sponsoring professional dance contests, fostering young talents in dance, organizing public dance events so as to enrich their cultural life, and carrying out international exchange with foreign counterparts.
Annually, CDA will organize some dance events at national and international level on a regular or irregular basis such as China Dance Lotus Awards Contest, China Dance Festival, National Dance Creation Symposium, Fostering Plan for Young Talents in Dance, “Deep into Life and the People” Inspiration Seeking, and National Kids’ Dance Competition. By actively implementing dance exchanges with foreign countries as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, CDA aims to demonstrate and disseminate Chinese national dance art to the entire world and introduce those excellent international dances to China. While sending Chinese dance companies and dancers abroad in official visits or participation in the international festivals, CDA will invite foreign dancers to visit China from time to time.
