Founded in 1949 as the largest nationwide professional film organization in China, China Film Association (CFA) is currently comprised of 31 group members and over 7000 individual members, most of whom are award-winning directors, actors and actresses, producers and distributors, playwrights, cinematographers, art and sound designers, composers, film critics and educators, and academic researchers both at home and abroad. By communication and coordination among its members, CFA functions as a non-governmental hub for organizing, guiding and serving the Chinese film community as well as for safeguarding their lawful rights.
CFA has so far maintained communications with film institutions and filmmakers from more than 40 countries and regions, and cooperates in sponsoring a series of film screenings and forums annually.
CFA is the sponsor for China Golden Rooster Award and Hundred Flowers Film Award, two of the most influential and authoritarian professional film awards in the Chinese film community. Their appraisal and awarding are held consecutively on a two-year rotational basis. Launched in 1992, China Golden Rooster & Hundred Flowers Film Festival is not only the most prominent celebration among all Chinese filmmakers, but also an appealing gala of the entire Chinese audience. As a significant part of the Festival, the Golden Rooster International Film Show has been promoted as a global platform for the latest film screening and academic exchanges.
