Renowned for its layered landscapes, ecological diversity, and cultural vibrancy, the southwestern province is attracting tourists from around the world, including those seeking short-term stays. Improved transportation and social media promotions have made the province a popular destination year-round.

At the Huatian Art Museum in Beijing, over 200 photographs immerse audiences in the natural wonders, historical and cultural tapestries, and dynamic social life of Yunnan. The touring exhibition, There Is a Kind of Life Called Yunnan, aims to challenge outdated perceptions of Yunnan as remote and underdeveloped.
The exhibition portrays Yunnan not only as a border province blessed with mesmerizing scenery and ethnic culture but also as a Shangri-La hub — a celestial place Yunnan was first known for — and a haven of tranquility for exhausted urban dwellers seeking peace.

The images transport viewers to quintessential Yunnan scenes: cycling along the shores of Erhai Lake as mist rises from the hills in the early morning; reading at a cozy cafe in Lijiang's old town; foraging for wild mushrooms with locals; admiring the Hani Rice Terraces; and celebrating ethnic festivals like the Water-Splashing and Torch Festivals. The snapshots also pay tribute to those who have worked and continue to work hard to make this lifestyle possible: road and railway builders, delivery workers, flower market vendors, and inheritors of little-known handicrafts.
Art critic Yang Weimin notes that the images reveal photography as a contemplation of life's essence rather than a mere display of technical prowess. They direct viewers' affection and respect toward those herding at the foot of snowy mountains, farming beside terraced fields, and building railways that connect Yunnan with the world.
Organized by Yunnan Arts University, the exhibition was previously shown in Kunming, Zunyi in Guizhou province, and Shanghai.
