To mark 75 years of diplomatic ties between China and Switzerland, the “Once Upon a Page: Contemporary Comics from the Fumetto Comic Festival in Luzern” exhibition at Tsinghua University Art Museum celebrates this milestone with a cross-border visual feast. Featuring 20 artists and nearly 200 works, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the pages of Swiss comics. It honors and deepens the two nations’ enduring friendship, using art to echo shared human themes – courage, identity, history, dreams, and society. These pieces, rich in Swiss culture, will resonate profoundly with Chinese audiences.

Cultural exchange is the best way to create lasting bonds in international relations. Comics, a universal art form, blend approachability with sharp social and cultural insights. Their ability to transcend borders reveals the deep spiritual connection between the two peoples.

China, too, boasts a rich heritage of graphic novels and a thriving contemporary comic scene, with young creators elevating Chinese comics and animation on the global stage. This exhibition helps to build a platform for Sino-Swiss young artists to collaborate, and in our interconnected world, such cross-cultural comic exchanges stand as vital bridges for global dialogue.
