This year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Veteran painter Gu Xunming, who has dedicated over a decade to replicating iconic revolution-themed artworks, recently displayed his painting "The Victory at Pingxingguan," a group portrait, alongside a handful of other paintings at an exhibition in Beijing.

The Battle of Pingxingguan holds great significance and has a far-reaching influence. Its outcome created favorable conditions for the Eighth Route Army to establish anti-Japanese aggression bases in northern China and launch guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines.

Gu based his painting on an original artwork by Sun Hao, an outstanding professor in the oil painting department of the PLA Academy of Arts. Sun's artwork is currently housed in the National Art Museum of China.

During the creative process, Gu Xunming admitted that using social media platforms such as Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) provides artists with a broader and richer imaginative space, giving them the ability to pioneer new artistic realms through innovative thinking.

On Tuesday, China's State Council Information Office held a press conference to announce plans for commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

As part of the grand gathering to commemorate the anniversary, a military parade will be held in Beijing's Tiananmen Square on September 3.
