China Media Group (CMG) officially announced the four sub-venues for the 2025 Spring Festival Gala: Chongqing, Wuhan, Lhasa, and Wuxi on Tuesday, signaling the countdown to Chinese New Year.
It is the first Spring Festival Gala after Chinese New Year being added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a momentous occasion for Chinese culture.
Chinese New Year was officially recognized by UNESCO on December 4, underscoring the global significance of this traditional festival. The recognition not only elevates the international profile of Chinese culture but also provides an opportunity for people worldwide to engage with and celebrate the festival's rich traditions.
The Spring Festival Gala is a grand cultural event hosted annually by CMG since 1983 on Chinese New Year's Eve. It features a diverse array of performances, including songs, dances, comedy sketches, cross-talk, opera, and high-tech light shows. Renowned as one of the largest televised events globally, the gala blends traditional heritage with modern creativity, captivating millions of viewers in China and beyond.
For the 2025 gala, sub-venues in Chongqing, Wuhan, Lhasa and Wuxi will complement the main venue in Beijing, each showcasing unique regional characteristics.
Chongqing in southwestern China is a mountainous city celebrated for its iconic hotpot cuisine and distinctive hillside charm. Wuhan in Hubei Province in central China seamlessly blends the rich cultural heritage of the Yangtze River with the dynamic energy of a modern metropolis. Lhasa, the capital city of southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region, captivates with its stunning plateau landscapes and the profound allure of Tibetan culture. Meanwhile, Wuxi in eastern China's Jiangsu Province is renowned for the tranquil elegance of its water towns and vibrant private economy.
