The China Media Group (CMG) has announced 47 new drama series and eight short drama series for 2025. The lineup, unveiled at an event in Beijing on Tuesday, highlights the group's commitment to producing high-quality content that reflects the nation's rich history and culture.
Speaking at the event, Xue Jijun, a member of CMG's editorial board, underscored the group's achievements in 2024 and outlined the four key areas of focus for 2025. These include strengthening cultural confidence, innovating content, leveraging technology and fostering industry partnerships.
The 2025 drama bouquet is divided into five categories.
The "Epic Tales of Craftsmanship" features six self-produced series that offer diverse perspectives on contemporary China.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and World Anti-Fascist War, six series in the "Marks of the War Years" category will explore the sacrifices and triumphs of that era.
"The Tapestry of Life" includes 16 series that delve into the everyday lives of ordinary people, capturing the joys and challenges of modern society.
Nine suspense and mystery series in the "Unveiling the Truth" category will keep audiences on the edge of their seats as they unravel intricate plots and explore moral dilemmas.
Ten series of the "Journeys of Resilience" category will focus on inspirational stories that resonate with contemporary audiences.
A notable highlight of the event was the launch of a new partnership between CMG's Film and Television Drama Center and various local governments and online platforms to produce high-quality short drama series, a newly emerged online drama type with vertical videos and episodes that last only a few minutes.
