China Theatre Association(CTA), founded in 1949, is a theatrical arts organization composed of theatre professionals of various nationalities throughout the country. It is also an institutional member of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC). By 2024, China Theatre Association has more than 9,600 registered individual members, 34 institutional members.
For over 70 years, China Theatre Association has been dedicated to such endeavors as hosting national theatre events, giving national theatre awards and prizes, promoting theatrical creations, selecting and training theatre talents. CTA sponsors grand comprehensive theatre award on the national level - "China Theatre Award", which includes two sub categories: the Plum Blossom Acting Award and the Cao Yu Playwriting Award, both of the awards are granted biennially. Regular theatre events held by CTA includes: China Theatre Festival, China Theatre Plum Blossom Award Competition, China Theatre Cao Yu Playwriting Award Selection, China Campus Theatre Festival, The BeSeTo (China, Korea and Japan) Theatre Festival, The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Chinese Theatre Cultural Festival, The National Excellent Small Theater Production Showcase, Picking Talents from Art Garden: National Excellent Youth Art Talent Showcase, etc.
The present honorary president of CTA is Mr. Shang Changrong, the president is Mr. Pu Cunxin. The daily work of CTA is under the leadership of Mr.Chen Yongquan, the Executive Vice President.
