2025 Spring Festival Opera Gala embraces tradition with innovation

  With Spring Festival fast approaching, the spirit of celebration is in the air. On January 22, China Media Group held a press conference in Beijing to announce the highly anticipated 2025 Spring Festival Opera Gala. In this first Spring Festival following the successful inclusion of "Spring Festival" on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list, the gala will take center stage in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province.

  The main stage will be set amidst the historic towers and pavilions of the ancient city of Taiyuan. Using drone cinematography and outdoor performances across Taiyuan's iconic landmarks, the gala extends its reach beyond the traditional stage, showcasing the rich cultural charm of Shanxi.

  This year's gala brings together nearly 80 opera troupes, representing more than 30 different opera genres, along with over 100 renowned performers, rising talents, and cross-genre artists.

  In terms of content, the 2025 opera gala explores the endless possibilities of the concept of "opera+" by integrating modern technology, new media, gaming, animation, and cinema into the art form. Through immersive techniques such as theatrical skits, AI-powered cultural showcases, and cross-screen interactions with overseas audiences, the gala highlights the profound heritage and diverse appeal of opera.

  The 2025 Spring Festival Opera Gala is set to air on January 30, promising a vibrant display of the enduring vitality and modern evolution of Chinese opera in the festive glow of the Chinese New Year.
