6 blockbusters set to ignite China's 2025 lunar New Year box office
A star-studded lineup of six films was unveiled on Wednesday at the 2025 Chinese New Year film launch event hosted by the Film Bureau of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China. These highly anticipated movies will be released on the first day of the Chinese New Year.
The six films, which include "Creation of the Gods II: Demon Force," "Ne Zha 2," "Detective Chinatown 1900," "Operation Hadal," "Boonie Bears: Future Reborn" and "The Legend of the Condor Heroes," represent a diverse range of genres and feature impressive casts. Since pre-sales opened on January 19, these films have already broken records, becoming the fastest to surpass 100 million yuan (about $13.8 million) in pre-sales.
At the launch event, the creative teams behind each film took to the stage to discuss their projects. "Creation of the Gods II" will continue the story from the previous installment, exploring character development and epic battle sequences, while "Ne Zha 2" will deliver another dose of humor and stunning visual effects. "Detective Chinatown 1900" promises to be a fresh take on the popular detective series, offering innovative content and a larger production scale. Meanwhile, "Operation Hadal" will be China's first film to depict the vast and complex underwater world of a nuclear submarine.

To further encourage moviegoing during the Chinese New Year, the event also highlighted various ticket subsidy programs. Since December, the bureau has launched a nationwide campaign to promote film consumption, with major banks and online ticketing platforms contributing a combined total of at least 600 million yuan (about $82.6 million) in subsidies.
The event concluded with a call for audiences to practice good cinema etiquette and respect intellectual property rights.
