Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, known as the roof of the world, is the seat of many highest mountains, the origin of some largest rivers as well as the home to the mysterious legend of Shangri-la. While the natural beauty of heaven and earth is well-preserved over the snow-covered land, people there have been riding the tide of the times to create better lives.
The year 2021 marks the 70th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Xizang (Tibet). Back in the 1950s, a million serfs were freed and became masters of their own fate. With the reform and opening-up started in 1978, the poverty and backwardness of Xizang have been fundamentally changed. In the 21st century, 3.65 million Xizang people have accomplished the goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and are opening up a new chapter in homeland development.
Xizang is endowed with rich cultural heritage and Chinese artists have created a great number of works there. Here on exhibition are 79 recent Xizang-themed paintings and photographs. These works depict beautiful and harmonious sceneries in Xizang, such as ancient caravan trails and Qinghai-Xizang railway, continuous peaks and vast wilderness, historical temples and verdant vineyards, lovely villages and lively cities. We may also get a closer look at the robust lads and bashful lasses, energetic dancers and laughing students, appreciate the simple yet distinct artistic style, and bear witness to the prevalent spirit of unity, enterprise and innovation in Xizang.
