First of all, please allow me to introduce myself.
I am Rosa Cervera, the president of Catedra China,
and, on behalf of my institution,
I would like to convey our sincere congratulations to the China Today Arts Week on its successful launch.
This event has been organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the China International Publishing Group.
It is—for us—an honor and a real pleasure
to participate in the opening ceremony of this important cultural, literary and artistic event.
In Spain, Catedra China is a benchmark institution
for our expert faculty members to accumulate and share knowledge about China.
Todos nuestros miembros son especialmente conocedores y amantes de la China tanto actual como histórica.
All of our members are lovers of both contemporary and historical Chinese culture.
Examples of famous members include journalist Georgina Higueras, whose first work of fiction was dedicated to China;
and our founder Marcelo Muñoz,
who was the first Spanish businessman to come to China in the late 1970s, and an important writer and essayist on China issues.
Another famous member is Ramón Calduch, vice president of the European Foundation for Traditional Chinese Medicine,
who has done enormous work to promote TCM in Spain and the rest of Europe.
We also have prominent economists and lawyers like Mar Perona, Gloria Claudio and Victor Cortizo;
and tourism experts dedicated to promoting Spanish culture in China, such as Kurt Grösch.
All of them are members of our institution's Executive Committee.
Of course, we also have great artists such as filmmaker Larry Levene,
and prominent visual artists and architects,
who have taken part in many Chinese competitions and designed many great Chinese buildings.
Among our honorary members are other very prominent individuals,
such as the former president of Spain, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero,
director general of UNESCO from 1987 to 1999, Federico Mayor Zaragoza,
and several former Spanish ambassadors to China.
One of Catedra China's main objectives is to promote open debate and information exchange about China in Spain, Hispanic America and other parts of Europe,
as this helps promote understanding of China, create dialogue between Western and Eastern civilizations, and contributes to a more globalized world.
A wide range of artistic activities are schduled for Arts Week.
We hope all of these activities are completely successful.
We are at your disposal to contribute to the dissemination of these activities and
we hope that—in the future—when the pandemic has eased, we can meet face to face
and even have a representation of China’s achievements and culture in Spain.
It will be a great occasion to enhance the friendship between our peoples.
From Spain, and on behalf of Catedra China, we send you our cordial greetings.
