My name is Magdalena Moreno Mujica and I am the Executive Director of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA). I am on Gadigal Land, the land of the Eora Nation, known as Sydney Australia, the home of our Secretariat.
IFACCA is the global network of arts councils, ministries of culture and government agencies that advance arts and culture, with member institutions representing over 70 countries.
Collectively we are committed to international dialogue and exchange, undertaken in a spirit of solidarity, inclusion, reciprocity, and mutual learning. The Federation represents plural voices and perspectives, unified in the belief that arts and culture are a public good – with the potential to further inclusive social transformation – to be shaped and accessible equitably by all peoples. As an international Federation, we respect national governance and are committed to the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions.
We have a shared vision of a world in which arts and culture thrive and are recognized by governments and peoples for their manifold contribution to society.
The China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) has been a member of the Federation since 2003. Over nearly two decades of engagement with IFACCA, we have witnessed and celebrated all their great work to support and enhance China’s cultural exchange throughout the world, and of course China Today Arts Week being such an important platform to achieve this. It has showcased outstanding work in a range of art forms to demonstrate the rich fabric of China’s cultural offering.
In October 2019, I was honored to be invited by CFLAC to visit Chengdu and Suzhou. While I was familiar with the work of CFLAC and the many art forms it supports, being in China I witnessed first-hand the richness and diversity of local arts practices and approaches, tradition and contemporary, from artists to collectives, to incubators, to small industries, to support rural and remote as well as urban, and the deep seeded commitment to preserve the richness of China’s cultural heritage. I was so inspired. These memories remain for me for ever as very present in the work of IFACCA.
CFLAC continues to be a very significant partner to IFACCA, to our members. During these days at China Today Arts Week, we will have a chance to experience a kaleidoscope of arts and cultural offering. While this edition may look a little different as it is digital, I am certain this will only increase our eagerness to meet again in person to experience such incredible work.
On behalf of our Federation to your Federation, we congratulate CFLAC on this edition of China Today Arts Week, and remain with the hope that I may be able to join you in person for the next edition. Thank you.
